I cannot speak highly enough of our guide Eric and all of his porters.  They were a humble, kind, warm and caring team, ready and willing to attend to our every need and to ensure we safely completed the Track.

Although shy, they were also clever, articulate, resourceful and highly skilled bushmen.  A large part of the success of this trip is due to the fact that we all made an effort to befriend and work with them.  They have my utmost respect.

Kilo Tango Lima 2 over and out!

Tomorrow we fly home to Sydney.  We came to PNG hoping to learn about the history of the Kokoda Track, enjoy the diverse and interesting landscape and to gain some understanding of the people and their culture.  In every respect my expectations have been exceeded.

PNG is an underdeveloped country.  There are obvious signs of health problems, low standards of living, crime and security issues.  AIDS, judging by the amount of signage seen, even in relatively remote villages, is a huge issue.

In the urban areas of Moresby and Hagen, these problems generally seem more pronounced as compared to the villages occupied by the traditional land owners.

James and I have enjoyed a fascinating holiday in PNG, a country with warm and friendly people and of great natural beauty.

Whilst PNG is a third world nation, struggling to rise above its problems I certainly hope I am able to return and further enjoy the many positive things this country has to offer.  We will depart tomorrow all the richer from our experiences and above all imbued with the spirit of Kokoda.
