I had the pleasure last night to meet our two latest trekkers who arrived in on a flight from Cairns.  They were up bright and early to catch their flight to Popondetta this morning for a 6am book-in.

When I arrived they were both awake and ready to move off and everything went ahead as planned and around 6:30 (check the pic below)  they entered the boarding lounge to wait for their flight to Kokoda.

Trekkers were picked up at the Girua Airport, Popondetta and after a short time in the centre of town they were driven to Kokoda.  Lunch I believe was had at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat before the group led by Kingsley Boropi headed off on the track.

Kingsley contacted me later today to say they their original destination of Deniki had to be cancelled as they heard most of the buildings were damaged due to a recent storm.

So tonight they are at Hoi and tomorrow they will have a tough walk up as they climb, climb, climb - up up up to Isurava.

Kingsley informed us they were heading for Alola yesterday and judging by the tracking GPS it appears they reached their destination.

He did not say where they planned on reaching tonight but am assuming it will be Templeton's area.  Everyone is doing just great.

Trekkers have now reached the half way point of Efogi where they are spending the night.  According to Kingsley who just phoned up via sat phone, they have experienced rain from 1900/Myola Junction to Efogi.

Everyone in the group continue to do well.

Tomorrow night the plan is to reach Agulogo.

Trekkers have now reached Agulogo and tomorrow will walk into Naoro Village.  Kingsley phoned in earlier today from the top of Brigade Hill.  Everyone continues to do well.

Kingsley phoned today from Maguli Range to say they were on their way to Ioribaiwa where they would spend the night.  I also spoke to Ken and he sounded like he has done it tough but is hanging in there and will be as proud as punch when he walks through the archway on the 6th March.

He remarked a couple of times how the boys have been really looking after them and seemed really happy with their progress but just a tough time especially today!

We are proud to announce that trek 862 walked off the track this morning and both trekkers are now at the hotel relaxing in readiness for their flight to Australia tomorrow.

Listening to Ken, its a credit to him that he completed his trek as he said on day 5 without the help of his porter, Dudley Bubura, he would not have made it to Owers' Corner.

So today there huge smiles all round as our KTL boys joined with them in celebration for getting their two trekkers safely to the finish line.  As for Ken and his son, well they were just SO HAPPY!!!

Ken and John, thank you for choosing to walk with us, Kokoda Trekking.  After listening to you today, whilst tough, you thoroughly enjoyed walking with our KTL staff and we trust you will have lots of memories to reflect on as the years roll by.

John was really looking forward to a beer!

On the way back into Port Moresby we stopped at the Bomana War Cemetery and the group got together for one last time.

John Swanson seen here at Private Bruce Kingsbury's gravesite at Bomana War Cemetery.  If Bruce is looking down from above, although he gave up his life for Australia,  the number of trekkers who have taken the time to find his plaque and pay their respects, Bruce must be so proud that he did not die in vain and that he has been remembered time and time again.  RIP Private Bruce Kingsbury V.C.
