Was being revamped when we trekked in October last year. Wondering if any trekkers have seen the updated version of the Gateway Hotel - just curious that's all...

Poolside has been completed and they have a new bar area. Next time I am there I will take some photographs for you. Last week trekkers were not allowed in the pool as it was closed due to a fashion parade. The pool looks very inviting so I guess must have been disappointing for them. Apart from that area, there is heaps of work presently being carried out in other areas of the hotel.
In fact every hotel in Port Moresby is in upgrade mode - so much construction work going on around town that for us locals its leaving us open mouthed compared to years of living here and seeing hardly any changes whatsoever! |

Apparently, the upper pool was still available while we were there, but we couldn't find it o.O Walked up and up the stairs and still couldn't find it. Our room was overlooking the building of the new pool though...
Editors Note: yes, the upper pool is still available when the other one is closed off. Presume it was because they were sitting poolside that the comment was made. Fluppy, the pool is situated behind the permanent dwellings on the upper part of the block behind the main hotel complex. It also has a gym in the same area and a barbeque area. |
