Exciting days as our first group of trekkers who will attend this years Anzac Day Service at Bomana War Cemetery arrived in PNG yesterday.  Trekkers in this group include:
  • Josh Finley
  • Brady Curran
  • Andrew Hackworth
  • Tom Sillar
  • Troy Knight
  • Pat Vainerere - Australian Guide
Last night they enjoyed a meal at the Royal Papua Yacht Club

This group are now at Orohaven Pija where they are spending the night and tucking into a few pizza's.  Earlier this afternoon I heard they took a dip in the creek that joins the guesthouse area, their first of many as they make their way across the Kokoda Trail.

Guide for this trek is Pat Vainerere from the Gold Coast who has already proven very popular with our previous trekkers.

This morning trekkers were picked up from their accommodation and the last I heard were popping in at a chemist shop on the way to the airport.

Update 17th April:  This trek arrived at isurava Village around 3:15pm this afternoon. All good but Troy had a tough day so decided to hire a personal porter to carry his backpack. Kingsley Boropi was asked to head up to Isurava as an added addition to this trek.

This trek is now camped for the night at the Alola side of Eora Creek. When talking to Pat on the sat phone I could hear the raging river in the background. Today Troy was out in front and Andrew struggled. All good however, trekkers doing well.

Tomorrow they head to either Kagi or Efogi for the night. Earlier today they were at Isurava Memorial.

Pat phoned in to say they have reached Kagi Village. Apparently a really hard slippery day today, hard yakka. Tomorrow they will reach the half way point of Efogi and head to Brigade Hill; Menari and stop at Agulogo all going well. He remarked everyone is doing well.

Update 20th April:  Have not heard from Pat today but the GPS showed them at Menari around 4:30 so not too sure if they stopped there or kept going to Agulogo.  Will update tomorrow as soon as he calls.

Pat phoned me around 8:15am to say they are once again on the move this time heading to Ua'Ule Creek for the night. Yesterday's prediction of 3pm into Ofi Creek was way off mark with 2 trekkers making it into camp around 7pm. The reason is that Andrew is having problems with his feet but is toughing it out so wanting to finish. Troy is doing it tough as well and got a little hot under the collar yesterday but later cooled off in the creek and felt that much better. Today, they are positive they will all finish as a team with the finish line in sight. Go trek 1058 - you are almost there! Pat said the track is very muddy and slippery so they are taking extra care as no doubt all other trekking companies are doing likewise.

Congratulations to this group as I just received a message from Pat Vainerere their guide. He said they walked under the archway at 1:50pm at Owers' Corner and were on their way towards McDonald's Corner. Well done everyone, trekkers, Pat and our KTL boys.   A tough walk but you add did well especially being wet and muddy and a couple of you struggling.
