This trek commenced in Port Moresby when trekkers arrived in town on the 18th May where they were met by their guide Pat Vainerere who had arrived himself on an earlier flight from Australia.  Later that night they all headed down to the Royal Papua Yacht Club for dinner.  The following morning they were picked up in a bus and driven out to the Bomana War Cemetery for them to pay their respects before heading out to the drop off point of Owers' Corner.  Trekkers in this group include:
  • Todd Fisher
  • Michael Mocatta
  • Joel Nicholson
  • Hamish Martin
  • Alonso Arrarte
  • Peter Navea
  • Daniel Cummins

Their first night on the track was spent at Ua'Ule Creek.  Last night found them at Ofi Creek and tonight they are at Agulogo for the night.

A couple are struggling a bit but their guide Pat Vainerere assures me they are all ok and he is keeping a good eye on the problems they have to get them to the finish line in Kokoda.

This is a group of people who all know each other as they all work together.  Joel Nicholson and Daniel Cummins are the owners of a company and they have taken their staff with them on this journey across the Kokoda Trail.

Tomorrow they will head to Efogi the half way point.  Its Pat's birthday today and he informed me this afternoon that they were lucky today and were able to buy some pork as someone had caught a pig and sold it to them.

Trekkers have now reached Dump 1 and tomorrow will be up bright and early for a long walk to Isurava Village where they will spend their last night on the Kokoda Trail/Track. It was raining quite heavy when talking on the sat phone. Everyone is ok and doing well. Earlier today they passed our other group heading in the opposite direction at the foot of Mt Bellamy. I was informed they were all walking strong with no problems. The remaining members of the DellaTorre family were informed that Vic was flying home tomorrow and that Chris was ok.

Pat just called to inform me they have reached their destination for today being Isurava Village. This afternoon they walked into Isurava Memorial area which can be quite emotional. Time of estimated arrival in Kokoda being 12-1pm tomorrow when they walk off the Kokoda Trail. He said a few aches and pains among the group which is pretty normal but all ok and looking forward to tomorrow when they can say they successfully completed their walk. Been wet it seems so they too have experienced walking in the wet. No far now guys!

Congratulations are in order as the group walked under the archway close on 1:30 and at the moment are about to head to Saga Village for a celebration of their trek with the boys before the drive down to Orohaven Pija for the night. Tomorrow morning they will fly back to Port Moresby. Well done everyone from all of us here at Kokoda Trekking.
